  • 1 in 4 girls & 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18

  • 70% of sexual assault cases occur with children under the age of 18

  • Children are most often sexually abused by adults they know and trust

  • The primary resource for a child's safety from sexual abuse is a protective adult

Indicators of child sexual abuse:
  1. any sexual behaviors exhibited by a child in front of others
  2. discomfort or avoidance of an individual and/or suspicions about an individual or relationship
  3. depression
  4. unexplained anxiety
  5. school difficulties (ex. inattention, hyper-vigilance)
  6. externalized behaviors such as aggression, anger, school failure
  7. sleeping problems, nightmares
  8. wetting, soiling themselves after being toilet trained
  9. excessive masturbation
  10. negative sense of self
  11. self-mutilation
  12. sexually transmitted diseases
  13. pregnancy
  14. running away to avoid the problem/abuse
  15. drug or alcohol abuse to numb the pain
